1BK LCIF Fundraiser
Mar-15-2022 |
Dear District Lions, The following is a letter mailed to all Club Presidents: Lions Clubs around the globe are changing history every day with the many projects funded with grants from our Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). Four years ago, LCIF launched Campaign 100, a $300 million fundraising effort to help meet the ever-growing service needs of our 48,000 Clubs and their 1.4 million members. Our District has done well in playing our part in that fundraising. June 30, 2022 is the finish line for Campaign 100. As of today’s date, it has raised 87.2% of its 300 million goal. 1-BK continues to cheer on the Campaign as it completes its course. We are announcing a new District Campaign 100 fundraiser. First prize is a $300.00 gift card for Starved Rock Lodge. The money can be used for an overnight stay, meals, and merchandise. Second prize is a Fulgar-La Scappi indoor/outdoor electric grill. An individual ticket will be $5.00. However, for every $20.00 donated by either a Club or a Lions member, you will receive 5 tickets. Example: donate $100.00 and receive 25 tickets. Plus, all Club and individual member donations, will receive credit at LCIF towards a Melvin Jones Fellowship. ($1000.00 is needed to honor a member with a Melvin Jones Fellowship.) The drawing for the 2 prizes will take place at the District Awards Night June 4, 2022 – winner need not be present to win. But as an incentive, there will be an Early Bird drawing during the District Convention banquet for all received entries for a 40 inch LED Smart TV. And again, winner need not be present to win. That winning ticket will go back into the drum for the final drawing on June 4th. Attached to this email is a form to fill out to send in your donation. There is room on the form for the listing of individual members wishing to donate to the fundraiser. (The form is included in the mailing.) Send the completed form and donation(s) back to:PDG John Joseph Honiotes 1228 Massachusetts Ave Joliet, IL 60435(The letters have a return envelope included with the mailing). He will confirm your entry in the drawing by sending back your ticket stubs. ALL CHECKS MUST BE WRITTEN TO ‘LCIF’. Although cash is welcomed, donations via check would be preferred. Thank you for helping your District cheer on Campaign 100 as it nears the finish line. PDG Sue Wolf 1-BK LCIF Coordinator Any questions should be directed to PDG John Joseph 815-508-9746 / johnjoseph1bk@gmail.com

''Love for Maggie'' - 1BK Service Opportunity
Jan-31-2022 |
Hello District 1-BK Club Presidents, Club Secretaries and Club Service Chairs:
I am sharing news about Maggie DeVries, a 5-year old girl from Frankfort, IL, who was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor located in her brain stem. Perhaps you may have heard about Maggie; if not, please read her story at this link:
A friend of Maggie's family, Carrie Sapp, has organized a Valentine's Day card drive to collect homemade Valentine's Day cards for Maggie. It would be wonderful to show an outpouring of support for the family through your club's participation in this card drive! Please pass along this email to your club members. More information about the card collection can be found here: (19) Carrie Sapp | Facebook
Cards can be dropped off or mailed and must arrive by February 13 to the following address. You might also make a note on the envelope, "Love for Maggie".
Carrie Sapp
1123 Green Glen Court
New Lenox, IL 60451
- For reference, I've attached a guidelines document for making homemade cards for kids living with cancer; and I hope you find it helpful.
- Maggie's story also provides information about additional efforts to benefit Maggie and her family.
The February 1-BK chairperson's newsletter for Childhood Cancer is also attached. February is Lions Clubs International's Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and February 15 is International Childhood Cancer Day. This newsletter will also be posted on the District 1BK website at: www.1bklions.org
Thank you for all you do in your club and district!

USA-Canada Forum COVID Precautions
Aug-30-2021 |
Update to Forum COVID Precautions
As the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum approaches, we unfortunately continue to see COVID cases continue to rise. Below are details of the precautions the Forum will be taking, but I wanted to highlight the significant change up front:
Due to some limitations in being able to maintain social distances during sanctioned Forum activities at the Iowa Events Center, face coverings are to be worn in the facility with limited exceptions (e.g. when eating or when you are able to be socially distanced).
I know there is a wide range of opinions and positions people have on the topic and it has unfortunately become highly politicized. This is not a political decision, but a humanitarian one that closely aligns with our mission as Lions. With attendees coming from all corners of the U.S. as well as Canada, the Caribbean, and other countries, we can help prevent the spread of the virus, protect others, and return safely to lead our communities into the future! Thank you for your understanding.
Here are a summary of the preventative steps the Forum is taking:
- As noted above, face coverings are to be worn during Forum events inside the Iowa Events Center, with limited exceptions. This applies to attendees and facility staff.
- Face coverings will be available in Forum offices and seminar rooms if anyone needs, forgets, or damages theirs.
- For meal sessions, we are planning on 6 people/table (instead of the standard 10) to allow for more distance when masks are removed by necessity for eating.
- Seminar room chairs will be hooked together in rows to maintain order, so they will be close. However, there will be a little more room than usual between rows to allow for easier passing between people, and the seating will be “overset” for the expected number of attendees, giving flexibility for people who want extra space around them. The Lions University Graduation is likely to be an exception, as graduates may need to be seated close together to accommodate everyone.
- Sanitizing wipes will be available in seminar rooms for microphones or other high use surfaces.
- Hand sanitizer stations are available throughout the facility
For other activities surrounding the Forum outside the Iowa Events Center, the CDC/Polk County (Iowa) guidance that face coverings should be worn regardless of vaccination status applies. This includes areas where attendees have greater control on social distancing, such as private gatherings, hotels, Skywalk, transportation, etc. There are no specific guidelines for outdoor activities.
Here are a few public references that may be helpful to you:
Additional information about the Forum will be coming next week, but for now, here is a link to the video and handout of the First Timer's virtual session held on Thursday, August 26.
I am so proud of the amazing event that we have planned, including several unique features or opportunities that I haven’t experienced in my 19 prior Forums. We want each of you to leave Des Moines charged, ready to lead, and remembering #LionsForum2021 for all the right reasons!
I look forward to seeing you in two short weeks!
Serving from the Heart,
Wendy Cain

Hi Lions,
Attached is the flyer for the 1-BK Candy Day Jamboree Food Reservations. The prices from Chef Mike are the same as 2 years ago – we got a deal!
Please promote the Jamboree when you have club meetings and make visits. Thanks.
Clubs should preorder their candy by calling the LIF office (815-756-5633) even if they will pick up their candy at the Jamboree, so the LIF office knows how much candy to bring.

For the long term, I have spoken to staff of the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). There are reconstruction grants available for clean-up efforts, rebuilding, etc. The staff at LCIF will be working with us to determine the best grant available to allow the most support for Gibson City.
Lions of 1BK, your support is needed for our fellow Lions and the good citizens of Gibson City. Please consider donating clothing and school supplies to your Zone Chair or a making a monetary donation.
Thank you for serving from the heart,
District Governor

District 1BK TV Raffle Winners
Thank you to all the Clubs and individuals who donated to our Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) this year. Whether your donation was made direct to LCIF or you made your donation via our District Campaign 100 TV Raffle, my sincere thank you in supporting LCIF and 1-BK.
Our TV raffle raised $5,630 this year. Even with covid restrictions in place and not being able to promote this fundraiser face-to-face, the Clubs and individuals came through and we topped last year's ticket sales by $155.00. So again, thank you.
Of the money raised, $4,590.00 was credited to Clubs or individuals who purchased tickets, and $1040.00 was credited to our District. This means that the many Clubs that participated received credit at LCIF which in turn will allow those Clubs to come closer to honoring one of their Club members as a Melvin Jones Fellow.; $1000.00 is needed for this honor. Our District raised enough to honor a future MJF recipient, or as a former Past International President referred to a person so honored as a 'Jones Boy'.
The winners were drawn at the District Awards night this past Saturday evening. The winners are:
Morris Lions Club 55 inch Sharp TV
Bolingbrook Lions 55 inch TCL TV
Lion Sue Roy - Lemont 32 inch OMN TV
Frankfort Lions 32 inch OMN TV
Coal City Lions Phaff Sewing Machine
Thank you to the Frankfort Lions for their underwriting the cost of the printing of the tickets and the Sharp and OMN TVs. Thank you to the Watseka Lions who donated the TCL TV they won last year. And a final thanks to Lion Ken Roberts of the Joliet Noon Club and Roberts Sewing Center for the donation of the sewing machine.

MD1 Call to State Convention (May 15th via Zoom)
Mar-07-2021 |
OFFICIAL CALL TO THE MD-1 STATE CONVENTION
May 15, 2021 via Zoom
Hello Fellow Lions and Leos of MD-1,
Our 100th Annual MD-1 Convention will be held May 15, 2021. Because of the pandemic restrictions related to the size of gatherings, this year’s convention will be held virtually via ZOOM. All Lions and Leos are invited to attend.
This will be the first – and hopefully only – virtual state convention. The convention committee has spent a lot of time and effort working on this event. I want to thank State Convention Chair Lion Terri Pasternik for her efforts working through uncharted waters this year.
Agenda
Because this is a virtual event there will be no charge for attending so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your home. The agenda is still being finalized but we expect the first plenary session to run from 1:00 to 3:00, followed by district caucuses and voting, with the second and final plenary session running from 6:00 to around 8:15.
Some of the highlights include hearing from our International Guest, recognition of State and International Presidential award recipients, a necrology service, voting on 4 constitutional resolutions, the announcement of the LIF Sight-And-Sound Sweepstakes winners, the revealing of next year’s Council Chair and State Chairs, and six gift card giveaways.
International Guest
Our International Guest this year is Past International President Clem Kusiak. PIP Clem is excited to be visiting with the Lions of Illinois and we look forward to having him with us via Zoom on May 15 th.
Registration
As stated earlier, registration is free this year but to attend or be a delegate you must register. The registration link and information will be sent out within the next day or two.
Voting Information
This year’s election will be held using Election Runner, an approved LCI electronic election program. All voting will occur between 3:00 PM and 5:45 PM on Saturday, May 15, 2021 using this software.
Delegates
Clubs will be entitled to the number of delegates based on their membership according to Lions International as of April 1, 2021. Each Club gets 1 delegate per 10 members or major fraction.
Example – a Club with 26-34 members gets 3 delegates. A Club with 35-44 members gets 4 delegates. PDGs should be listed as delegates and do not count toward the club’s number of allowed delegates.
Each Club will return their delegate form, to be received by their district Secretary by no later than May 5, 2021.
Then, each district Secretary will submit Club delegate forms to the State SST - to be received by the SST no later than May 10, 2021.
Your Club MUST be in Good Standing to be able to vote – that means the Club is current with their District and MD-1 State dues by April 30, 2021. This is 15 days prior to the convention in accordance with the MD-1 C&BL.
Once your Club’s delegate form is received by SST Mary and your Club is verified to be in good standing, CC Joe Vinyard will issue an email to each delegate with their unique Username and Password for the Election Runner software during the week of May 10, 2021.
Delegates MUST have an email address to be able to vote.
Delegates MUST be registered for the convention.
Resolutions
Attached to this email are the 4 constitutional Resolutions that will be on the ballot this year.
Please bear with us as we work though some unprecedented circumstances to put on a successful convention for the Lions of Illinois. We look forward to “seeing” you on May 15 th at our 100 th state convention.
Thank you for all you are doing to serve your communities!!
Joe Vinyard
MD-1 Council Chairperson

LCI Update Message from ID Bob Block on LCI 2020 Convention and District Conventions
Mar-21-2020 |
MD1 Lions,
Please see the attached letter from our President Choi cancelling the Singapore Convention in June, 2020.
I have also attached the Voting Procedures from Lions Clubs International for the election of 2020-2021 District Officers if the District Convention was cancelled. This will assist Districts in the voting for new officers for the coming years.
Stay safe and HEALTHY!
Lion Bob Block International Director 2019-2020

** District 1-BK Convention Postponed **
Mar-17-2020 |
** District 1-BK Convention Postponed **
------------------------------------------------------
Due to the current worldwide COVID-19 pandemic, we will be following the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health recommendations and cancelling the District 1-BK convention on April 17-18. I have made this decision in the best interest of your health and safety. Given that a significant portion of our membership are in the high risk category I feel this is the best course of action.
I will continue to monitor the situation before deciding on another date and location. As you know the situation is fluid and new information comes out each day. We are required to hold elections for our officers and I will work with the leadership team in 1-BK to determine how to best proceed. I have also consulted with ID Bob Block to get his input. I ask for your patience as we work through this situation.
The Holiday Inn will be cancelling any room reservations that have been made in conjunction with the convention. As for prepaid registrations and meal packages, please allow us a little time to work out the details on the best process of refunding everyone's money.
I want to thank the convention committee for all of the hard work they have put into planning this event. I know this is disappointing news, but everyone's health and well-being is the top priority.

Nominations for District 1-BK Melvin Jones and LIF Foundation Fellows
Dec-01-2019 |
Lions All,
Â
Every year District 1-BK awards either a Melvin Jones Fellowship or two Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellows to any Lion or Lions in the District. Usually this is done in alternating years but this Lion year we will be awarding both one Melvin Jones fellowship and two LIF Foundation fellows.
Â
To receive either of these awards a nomination must be made on behalf of the deserving Lion. Any Lion can nominate any other Lion for either award. The only stipulation is that the Lion nominated cannot have received either fellowship before by any other means.
Â
Attached are the nomination forms (Word and PDF) for both the Melvin Jones award and the Lions of Illinois Foundation Fellow award. This is a good opportunity to recognize someone for their dedication to serving others as a Lion member.
Â
Please distribute the application forms to your members so everyone has the opportunity to nominate and recognize a deserving Lion or Lions. The deadline for submitting the nomination form is January 24, 2020.
Â
The awards will be presented at the District Convention on April 18, 2020.
Â
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or problems with the attachments.

LCI Peace Poster Contest Info - Entries due by 11-2-19
Sep-02-2019 |
District 1-BK,
See attached info and PDF.
International Peace Poster Contest For over three decades, Lions clubs around the globe have been sponsoring a very special art contest in schools and youth groups. Creating peace posters gives children everywhere the chance to express their visions of peace and inspire the world through art and creativity. The theme for the 2019-2020 Peace Poster Contest is “Journey of Peace” History has shown that all too often peace is not guaranteed. While this is unfortunate, it also allows us the powerful opportunity to figure out how to achieve peace, individually and in our communities. And who better to map out the “Journey of Peace” than our youth? Attached is information on the contest. If you have any questions, please contact Lion Missy Honiotes / Youth Activities / 815-603-4395 / Mhoniotes79@gmail.com or Lion John Joseph / Co-chair / 815-508-9746 / johnjoseph1bk@gmail.com

Official Call to District 1-BK Convention April 12 - April 13, 2019
Feb-07-2019 |
“Let’s Go Crusin’ to the Hop!” District 1-BK Lions and Leos, Our 5th Annual BK Convention is fast approaching. Mark your calendars for the dates of April 12th and April 13th, 2019. This convention will be held at the Bolingbrook Holiday Inn & Suites, 205 Remington Boulevard, Bolingbrook, Illinois. Registration is $10.00 for Lion members. Non-Lion guests, Leos, and “First Timers” are FREE. Registration fee includes a sundae bar Friday night “At the Hop”. Realizing the difficult economic times, the convention committee was able to negotiate room rates down to $99.00 per night for single or double occupancy. Meal costs have been kept as low as possible. We will have an All-American buffet lunch for $25.00. Lunch consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, potato chips, cheese macaroni salad, a house salad, and cookies. Dinner will cost $34.00 for past primavera, $36.00 for bruschetta chicken breast, or $38.00 for roast sirloin of beef. Dinners include soup and salad, potato, rolls and butter, coffee or tea, and dessert. It is time for all clubs to submit their ads and bragging rights for the convention program book. The costs for the ads are $25.00 for 1/4 page/business cards, $50.00 for a half page and $75.00 for the full page. Clubs are encouraged to solicit ads from local business as well as club members. This is one chance for you to advertise your business with no fine from the “Tail Twister” as well as help pay for the cost of the convention book’s printing. The deadline for ads is March 15th. Ads should be sent to PDG Bird Combs, pdgbird1@mtco.com, in either PDF or JPEG format with PDF being the preferred method. We will once again be having a Silent Auction this year and it will open on Friday night when “Sock Hop” is going on in the adjacent room. We are requesting donations to the Silent Auction from all clubs and individuals who want to donate. Cash donations are also welcome. Please contact Lion Irene Leopold to let her know what you will be donating. She can be reached at 815-483-3715 or via e-mail at ileopold59@gmail.com. At this time we have two Hospitality rooms available for clubs interested in hosting a room. This is a great opportunity to meet Lions from across the District. To secure a hospitality room, you must contact convention chairperson Lion Charlie Siefert at 630-759-5179 or via e-mail at csiefert@ameritech.net. ALL hospitality rooms will be on the first floor again this year.
On Saturday we will have some informative and exciting sessions on Lionism during the morning time frame. Following lunch, a Celebration of Service will precede the Cabinet Meeting on April 13th. I need all the names of deceased club members sent to me by April 1st so we don’t miss any of our departed Lions during the Celebration. I will do everything I can to keep the Cabinet Meeting and Elections as short as possible. We will be voting on one proposed change to our Constitution and By-Laws. Clubs are encouraged to bring their banners for the Parade of Club banners. Clubs can also bring “brag” boards for display in a “Walk of Fame” that will be on display over the weekend. There will be some special awards as well as an informative presentation by our guest speaker, ID Ardie Klemish, during Saturday’s events. I encourage you to make a pledge to yourself to display your commitment to “Going Beyond the Horizon” in person in 2019 at our District Convention. Yours in Lionism,
Lori Lion Lori Linn District Governor

1BK Candy Day Jamboree Flyer (on 9-26-18)
Aug-06-2018 |
Hello 1-BK Lions,
Attached is the flyer for the 1-BK Candy Day Jamboree on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at the Marseilles Lions Hall, 511 Commercial St, Marseilles, IL 61341. If you plan to have dinner at the Jamboree, you must submit a food reservation form that is attached to CT Bird Combs by Sunday, September 23.
All club Secretaries should have received a packet from the Foundation office a few weeks ago with all the details about Candy Day and an order form for candy and supplies. It’s very important to submit your club’s Candy Day order for candy to the Foundation office so an adequate supply of candy will be
brought to the Jamboree.
Your Foundation Trustees John “Pickles” Pajkos, PDG and Lion Joe Krenkel hope to see an overflow crowd at the Jamboree. District 1-BK has one of the better attended Jamborees and Lion Mike’s prime rib is out of this world.
Please send in your food reservations early. Payment may be made at the door, but CT Bird still needs your club’s meal reservations to insure enough food is available.
If you have any questions, contact Trustees John or Joe or CT Bird.
Glenn “Bird” Combs, PDG

1BK Lions Cabinet Meeting Announcement - July 21, 2018 @ Marseilles Lions Hall
Jul-11-2018 |
From: Charlie Siefert <csiefert@ameritech.net> To: 1BKCabinet Subject: Cabinet Meeting Announcement - July 21, 2018 Distinguished Lions,
Thank you all for volunteering (or being coerced) into joining the 2018-2019 District Cabinet. (aka - the Queens Court!!).
Our first Cabinet meeting of the year will be on Saturday, July 21st, at the Marseilles Lions hall starting at 10:00 a.m. See the attached "official" announcement for more details.
Those of you that are Zone chairs will also have a meeting/training session following lunch on Saturday.
This year we will be reverting back to having you submit your reports via Word or PDF file documents instead of using the online reporting via the Hudson Lions Club web domain. (Thank you Lion Jeffrey!) Copies of the Cabinet and Committee report form are attached in both Word and PDF fillable formats. Hopefully they will also be on the District website in a couple days.
I would like to have your reports back to me no later than 7-17 at 5:00 p.m. We realize that since we just started the year you may not have much, if anything, to report. Send your reports to my email address - csiefert@ameritech.net.
I have also attached a file with the report numbers for your respective committee(s) so you know which report is yours. These numbers will also be printed in the district directory when we receive them. "Bird" and I have been working feverishly trying to get the directory ready by the Cabinet meeting.
Feel free to contact me with any questions or if you need help with file attachments.
Again, thank you for volunteering to serve as we "set sail on a new adventure"!

ANNOUNCING THE JOLIET NOON LIONS JOLIET SLAMMER’S BASEBALL NIGHT Flyer (on 7-21-18)
Jun-22-2018 |
ANNOUNCING THE JOLIET NOON LIONS JOLIET SLAMMER’S BASEBALL NIGHT Saturday, July 21, 2018 Gates open at 5:05pm / Game starts at 6:05pm Dear Fellow District Lions, The Joliet Noon Lions have taken the opportunity for a fund raising event offer by our local professional baseball team, the Joliet Slammers. The Joliet Lions are selling tickets to the Saturday, July 21, 2018 baseball game. Our club has the opportunity to raise funds based on our ticket sales and by running the 50/50 raffle for the evening. The Joliet Noon Lions welcomes all District Clubs to purchase tickets for this event. Not only will you be helping the Noon Lions in building up their charitable fund, but you can also earn money for your own club as well. Tickets are $10.00 each. For every ticket your club purchases, the Joliet Noon Lions will donate $5 back to your club’s charitable account. If a Lion were to purchase 10 tickets to share with family and friends, fellow workers, employees or even a local little league team or scout troop, they will earn their club $50.00. The more tickets sold, the more you can earn for your club. For more information or tickets call me, Lion John Knudson at 815-258-8374 or email the Joliet Noon Lions at: jolietnoonlionsclub@gmail.com. Checks are to be written to the Joliet Noon Lions. Arrangements will be made to get your tickets back to you prior to that evening. Everyone wins in this fundraiser. Everyone buying a ticket gets to enjoy ‘America’s favorite pastime’ with their fellow Lions and friends; and we all help raise funds for each club’s charitable needs. And with luck the Slammers will be winners that night as well. Any help you can give on this project will be greatly appreciated. You will be helping the Lions and having some fun. Money and orders need to be postmarked no later than July 14th to insure purchase. A flyer and order form are attached. Yours in Lionism, Lion John Knudson / Joliet Noon Lions / 815-258-8374 / jolietnoonlionsclub@gmail.com.

1-BK 2018 Convention Info & Registration - April 20-21 @ Bolingbrook
Feb-11-2018 |
It’s Almost Here…
...AND THE CELEBRATION CONTINUES
The 2018 District 1-BK Convention
Fellow 1-BK Lions,
Make plans now to join your fellow District Lions as we continue with the excitement and fun experienced during our 100th Anniversary Celebration in Chicago. We plan on continuing that excitement and fun with your 1-BK District Convention, April 20-21, 2018 to be held at the Holiday Inn in Bolingbrook.
Everyone will be together Friday night to enjoy fun, games, fellowship, hospitality and some surprises. Saturday morning kicks off with a breakfast as we call the Convention to order followed by seminars to help make us stronger in our communities.
Our lunch will be the big event with our Guest Speaker International Director Alan Lundgren from Scottsdale, AZ. Immediately after lunch we will honor our fellow Lions who have passed on with our ‘Celebration of Service’.The afternoon will conclude with our procedure to elect Lion Lori Linn to be our next Governor along those who will assist her in leading our District in 2018-2019.
Everyone is invited to attend our Saturday evening dinner where we will pay tribute to our Past District Governors and our newest members (‘The Old & New’). And of course, the hospitality room will reopen to help finish our Saturday celebration.
A tentative listing of the events is attached to this email. Also attached are: a Registration form, your club’s delegate certification form, along with information on purchasing ads for our program book and donating items for our Silent Auction.
The room rate at the Holiday Inn is $99.00 (plus tax) per night. Contact the hotel to make your reservations and let them know you are with BK-1 to get that special room rate. You must reserve your room by March 30th to receive the special room rate.
You will be getting an additional mailing on purchasing ads for the program book. Buying Ads for the program book and donating merchandise for the Silent Auction helps to offset other convention expenses. The Convention Committee appreciates whatever your club can do to help us in those areas.
See you in Bolingbrook,
Get ready for a weekend of fun!

1BK Update on LCI 2018 Int'l Convention in Las Vegas
Dec-06-2017 |
Fellow 1BK Lions: Recently, we got together to discuss the International Convention. Yes, there’s a committee of 10 District representatives meeting to discuss what we can do to make the trip more enjoyable for all that attend, and maybe save some money. I know you’ve seen this through our Cabinet Meeting notes, but I thought I’d publish, once again, a small article about the upcoming convention coming up in June. The Convention will take place in Las Vegas! You know how much fun that can be if you’re not careful. The last date to register, for the discount rate of $150 each, is rapidly approaching; it’s 1/12/18. After that, it goes to $200 each. So, don’t delay if you want the discount. And if you do register, remember to get the room at Luxor Tower. Once again, that’s Luxor Tower. That’s the hotel for the Illinois delegation; not the Luxor. Please keep this in mind when registering. The Convention will, of course, take place in the Summer so dress accordingly. To that end, the Parade uniform has changed to allow khaki shorts, or capris. It still has a white polo and the blue vest; I’m not sure about the shoes, but I’m sure it’ll be something “summery”. By the way, Lion Bob Block has some of these vests available to purchase at the bargain price of $5. (gov8990@aol.com) And finally, the Committee is looking for volunteers. Check it out on the Convention website at Lions2018lasvegas.org to see what you can do lend a hand. There’s plenty to do!!!! Until then, we’ll be seeing you around, and have a Merry Christmas!

Lions and LCIF Responded To Hurricane Harvey
Sep-03-2017 |
My Dear Lions, On Friday, August 25th, Hurricane Harvey made its way ashore on the central Gulf Coast of Texas with winds of 125 miles per hour. As I draft this letter, the central coast of Texas, including metropolitan Houston, is still being affected by unprecedented amounts of rain fall and potentially devastating flooding. The nearly 17 million residents in the path of the storm will be dealing with the aftermath for weeks and possibly months to come. Lions Clubs International, through our Foundation (LCIF), has responded with emergency catastrophe grant in the amount of US$100,000. The grant will allow Lions in the area of impact to provide life-saving supplies of food, water, blankets and other necessities. We never know when or where disaster will strike. But when it does, LCIF emergency and major catastrophe grants enable local Lions to respond, making an immediate impact in the hardest hit areas – around the world. Your donation to LCIF makes it possible for us to respond at a moment’s notice to this and other disasters as they strike. Lions members are the most generous people in the world. Please consider a donation to LCIF to assist Lions in short-term and long-term disaster response. I know you join me in keeping the victims of this latest natural disaster in your thoughts and prayers. Together we make a significant difference. Namaste, Dr. Naresh Aggarwal International President Note: You can mail a check to: Lions International 300 W. 22nd Street Oakbrook, IL 60523-5466 Attention: LCIF Make check payable to: LCIF and place Hurricane Harvey in the memo section. Include a note with your club name and mailing address. OR Go to www.lionsclubs.org click on the Hurricane Harvey headline – it will give you an option to DONATE NOW

1BK Club Officer Symposium on June 17th @ multiple locations
May-11-2017 |
Club Officers,
What a great time to be a Lion! As we move to our second century of service, there are many new and innovative ideas coming from LCI to support our service to our communities. Our district has grand goals to improve membership, leadership, and service.
Did you know...
-Lions around the world have an audacious goal to serve 200 million people by 2020-21? Your club can be part of this.
-Lions has a new program called LCI: Forward that will help clubs improve membership, leadership, and service?
-LCI will be embarking on a public relationships campaign worldwide? Lions will no longer be the best kept secret!
-LCI is developing an APP for Lions? Yes, Lions are going digital!
-1BK is offering a Club Officer Symposium in three sites in the district on June 17 to allow district lion leaders to be on the cusp of all of the excitement?
So, how can your club get involved?
-Share the attached flyer with your club members, especially the new officers for 2017-18.
-Determine which site to attend...Hudson Fire Station, Bradley Quality Inn, or Morris Eagles Hall.
-Car pool with your club members to the Symposium. Enjoy fellowship with other Lions!
-Enjoy the FREE coffee, rolls, and lunch.
-RSVP to your Zone Chair by June 9. Contact numbers are noted on the flyer!
-Take home many new and innovative ideas that can help your club be the best it can be, making our communities the best they can be.
Need more info or have questions?
Contact Jama Wahl, 1BK GLT Coordinator, 815-822-3014 or jamawahl@yahoo.com
1BK Cabinet Members,
Attached please find a flyer for the upcoming 1BK Club Officer Symposium. DGE John Joseph Honiotes will be sharing our district goals for 2017-18. Officers, whether new or seasoned, will have many opportunities to share! As 1BK Cabinet members, please encourage club participation. We are seeking at least one officer from each club to attend, 100%. The symposium is being offered at three sites. The travel time should be minimal for everyone. Plus, coffee, rolls, and lunch are FREE!!
Many thanks for your support,
Jama

CRITICAL 100th LCI Convention MD1 Activities -- Please Read
Apr-03-2017 |
The COUNT DOWN is now at less than 100 days until the 100th annual Lions Clubs Int'l convention in Chicago. Every Week we will now start highlighting some very strategic and important items for all Lions, especially the Lions of Illinois as we complete our convention hosting planning and preparation activities. Critical activities right now include:
The clock is now ticking to the start of the convention on June 30th. 90 days will go by very quickly.
If you not registered for the convention and secured your hotel room, please do so this week. More than 31,000 Lions have completed their registrations. And, we are now spread across 34 hotels downtown with 18 of the booked solid. We expect total registrations and total hotels to continue to grow in the short term.
Please consider volunteering for any committee in any time slot. We still need many many volunteers to fill an estimated total of 3,100 shifts of a couple hours each. You do not need to volunteer for a very long time, but we can use every committed volunteer we can get. Consider signing up now online here:
http://www.lions2017chicago.org/volunteer-form
4. CLUB STREET BANNER SPONSORSHIP
Please ask your club to consider sponsoring a street banner to hang downtown during the Convention. We will try and get your back to you after the convention. Your club's sponsorship is directly impactful on the MD1 Host Committee budget and your support is VERY MUCH appreciated. See the order form at this link:
http://www.lions2017chicago.org/order-now/street-banner-sponsorship/
With the clock ticking and us being 90 days from the start of the convention, there are many things that have registration or ordering deadlines. Waiting too much longer can put your participation in and enjoyment of the convention behind the 8 ball. Please consider wrapping up all of the above this week.
Please Like and share via FB or email this update and future weekly updates to all the Lions you know.
Thank you for helping to make our 100th Int'l Convention special and great!!
